Wags Guide to Fall Activities for your Pet

Merritt Milam | September 11, 2017

Fall has come again and we can’t wait for the cool weather and time spent with our furry friends! If you think fall means more time indoors and less activity for your pets, think again. We put together some of the best activities that we love to do with our pups when the fall season comes along.

Camping

Pack up your family and pets for a fun weekend of camping at your favorite spot. Your furry friend will love the time spent outdoors with weather that’s not too hot and not too cold. Don’t forget to bring your pet-friendly treats along for the trip so your pup doesn’t feel left out around the campfire. Be sure to make a list of all the things your pet will need throughout the weekend – fresh water, pet-friendly bug spray, food, medications, doggie bags, towels in case of an unexpected dip in the water and anything else your pet needs daily.

Pumpkin Patch

When you go out to pick your best fall pumpkin, bring your pet along on the outing. The pumpkin patch is a great spot for your pet to socialize and get some fresh air away from the busy streets and neighborhoods. Don’t forget to learn about each patch’s specific pet policies and make sure to keep your pet on a leash throughout the trip, or until he feels comfortable in this environment.

Halloween

Halloween will be here soon, so it’s time to start planning your costume! Incorporate your pet by dressing him up in a matching outfit, or one that goes along with your theme. Need some creative costume ideas? Check out this list for 48 great Halloween costumes for your furry friends! If you plan to take your pet trick-or-treating, make sure he feels comfortable in social situations, especially during a night that may be a little more overwhelming than usual.

Tailgating

Football season is upon us, so it’s time to enjoy some great food and friends while rooting for your favorite team! Help your pup fit right in by dressing him in the jersey of his favorite team. If you plan to take your furry friend to a tailgate, make sure he has plenty of fresh water and food for the day. Keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn’t get too overwhelmed by the large crowds and loud noises. If your pup would rather stay home, bring him into Wags B&B for a night of fun with his four-legged friends!

Hiking

Hit your favorite trail this fall with your dog in tow. He is sure to love the fresh air and ample room to run around. Make sure to spray your pup down with some flea and tick repellent before the trip. Be aware of the trail length you choose, so you don’t end up biting off more than you and your pup can chew.

Embrace the leaf piles

What may be a nuisance to some can be great fun for your pets! The leaf piles that build up in the yard during the fall weather can provide a place for fun and exercise for your furry friends. You may want to consider letting them play just before a bath, so any leftover dirt and leaves will be washed away. Also do a quick check for any ticks, as some may be hiding in the older piles of leaves.

Cuddle up

End a great fall day by cuddling up with your pets and putting in your favorite film. What’s better than time spent next to your best furry friend anyways?
