What do ghosts, goblins, pups and Hand in Paw have in common? Wags ‘n Whiskers’ Halloween Spooktacular! On Wednesday, Oct. 28, we are hosting a very spooky and fun Halloween party during Camp Wags, with 50 percent of daycare proceeds benefiting our friends at Hand in Paw. Be prepared to be spooked when you enter Wags—the facility will be decorated from floor to ceiling to give you a fright! We will be taking pictures of all of our furry friends and will have a Halloween costume contest for the pooches, with a special spooky prize for our winner. We love seeing all of our furry friends in their Halloween best, and can’t wait to see all of their creative costume ideas!

During this fun and frightful time of year, there are some important tips to keep in mind to ensure your pets stay safe and sound. While this is the season for humans to enjoy candies of all kinds, remember that chocolate is extremely dangerous – even deadly – for dogs. If your dog consumes of any type of chocolate, be sure to look out for symptoms of poisoning, which could include vomiting, diarrhea, heavy and quick breathing, rapid heart rate and seizures.

Unfortunately, Halloween can also be a time for pranks that often include pets. Be sure to keep your furry friends inside and safely by your side to avoid any type of unfortunate incident. This is especially true for black cats, which have served as objects of superstition for centuries. Some shelters will not allow black cats to be adopted during the month of October, fearing they will be used as Halloween décor or for a prank and then later abandoned.

When prepping your furry friends for the spooky evening, make sure their costume is not only pet friendly but comfortable to wear. Be sure to give the costume a test run before the big night to ensure your pets enjoy wearing their costumes and that they don’t have any adverse reactions. Some costumes can be unsafe and restrict breathing, or even cause an allergic reaction for animals with sensitive skin.

Last, but not least – have FUN! We can’t wait to see all of our furry friends at our Halloween Spooktacular.
