HAPPY HOWL-A-DAYS!

The holidays are officially upon us, which means lots of shopping, eating and enjoying good times with your friends, family  and (of course) your pets!  To ensure that your pet enjoys the holiday season as much as you do, here are some helpful tips that are sure to keep them happy and healthy through the New Year!

Beware of hazards

You may love the copious amount of food that you get to enjoy during the holidays—but that doesn’t mean your pet should! Never feed your pet any chocolate, fat trimmings, bones, alcohol or nuts as these can have extremely harmful – and sometimes fatal—effects on your pet’s health. It is also important to keep your pets away from any Christmas trees or holiday plants, such as poinsettias, because ingesting these can give your pet irritation, nausea or diarrhea. Also be sure to keep them away from any holiday lighting or candles as these can cause your pet to experience electric shock or serious burns—not to mention create a serious fire hazard!

Make time for play time

Take a break from all the shopping, wrapping and decorating to give your pet a little attention. Taking a walk to look at Christmas lights with your dog provides the perfect break for you and excellent mental and physical stimulation for your pet. If the cold weather has you cooped up at home, help your pet get some exercise by playing fetch in the hallway or take a few minutes each day to teach him a new trick to show off at holiday parties!

Spoil your pets

You shower the most special people in your life with gifts during the holidays, so why not include your pet in all the fun? Fill a stocking with treats or small toys, find a cute holiday costume, or make a DIY treat recipe from Pinterest to give your pet a perfect holiday gift he is sure to love!
